Secretary of the Council, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu, while advocating that Igbo language be used at all fora in the state as a way of promoting indigenous languages, read out the address of the Council in Igbo language to resounding applause from those at the chamber.
Eze Ogbu who is the Enachioken of Abiriba Kingdom, on behalf of the council members, commended the efforts of the Governor at keeping to his electioneering promises and urged him not to relent. He also thanked the state Governor for the Okon-aku bridge built at Ohafia and the ongoing Abiriba ring road among other projects in the area.
While admonishing the Governor not to be deterred by the activities of his detractors, the secretary of the council told the Governor that the Abia North Council of Traditional Rulers were poised to support him in which ever way they can to help him flush out bad eggs in the state through their commitment to fishing them out in their communities, adding that security is a collective responsibility.
In his response, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu appreciated the traditional rulers for their timeless advice and efforts at ensuring his administration stands on firm footing and promised not to let them and Abians down.
He highlighted paucity of funds as a major limitation to achieving his mission but pledged to place Abia at the top radar in the nation.
The Governor noted that the recent economic recession across the globe is a pointer that Abia should tap into their God-given natural resources and focus on being self sufficient.
Governor Ikpeazu who said he would give priorities to roads, schools, security and hospitals apart from trade and commerce re-emphasized that Abia State would soon begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply with the agreements reached with Geometrics Power Plant and others. He added that this would help reduce some burdens on artisans in the state and encourage creativity and Job creation.
He revealed that additional seven Hilux Patrol Vans have been purchased for the military to enhance their operational capacity in carrying out their duties and called on the traditional rulers to quickly report every suspicious movements in the environments to the appropriate authorities.
