Akwa United of Uyo defeated former league champion, Enyimba international, during a week 26 league match at the Uyo township stadium yesterday. The only goal of the match came at the 46th minute when Kufre Ebong scored with an assist from Ezekiel Bassey, to end Enyimba Internationals run of five matches without defeat.
Akwa United has so far kept 10 clean sheet in their last 12 league home matches.
The Head Coach of Akwa Utd, Patrick Udoh, told journalists after the match that they worked hard for the victory.
“I feel excited. It was a hard-earned victory. We worked hard for it. (Ezekiel) Bassey is always like that. I developed him and gave him confidence to play,” he said.
Enyimba International head coach, Kadiri Ikhana, however blamed his boys for not playing as a team whilst concentrating on defence.
“We played out of our plans. I’ll say we dashed out this game and I’m not happy at all. We refused to play as a team in the first half, rather we concentrated on defending and used up our energy too much,” he said.
In other matches, Crown FC walloped Nasarawa united in Ibadan with a 3-0 scoreline; El-Kanemi held Lobi stars to a draw at home, while FC Taraba for the first time since week seventh of the 2013/2014 season could not win their home match as the league defending champion Kano.
Pillars played draw in their home.
