Abia Warriors’ Ndifreke Effiong has described their local rivals, Abia Comets as a worthy opponent after they were held to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match last weekend.
Ibrahim Olawoyin shocked the top-flight side with the opening goal in the first half of the encounter before the Warriors fought back to get the equaliser from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the tie through Effiong.
The striker noted that they gave the friendly match their very best but were pegged back by determined Abia Comets and that they were relieved that they settled for a draw after they managed to level at the death.
“Abia Comets played very well. They surprised us with the way they played and we had to buckle up before we got the equaliser,” Effiong told Goal.
“They really stretched us to the limit. We never doubted that they are a good side but we didn’t expect them to play to the extent they did. We are going to be taken them very seriously when we play them again in the future.
“It was a very tough game. We had to psyche ourselves up to avoid a defeat. We were tested and have realized that there are no easier games. We must work harder to get the result we desire.”
