The Abia State Police Command on Tuesday, paraded some suspected notorious armed robbers alleged to have been terrorising Umuahia.
The gangs which include the killers of the couple along Secretariat Road, Umuahia as well as the robbery gangs that snatched the money a bank customer, Okechukwu Basil cashed from a commercial bank after shooting him among others.
Parading the men, the Commissioner for Police, Mr Etim Eme Okon said the five suspects, Chukwuebuka Okoro, Ogbonna Ifeanyichukwu, Justice Enyinna Asiegbu, Promise Sunday Obilor" Alias Esere and Emezue Kingsley " Alias " Pakins were members of the eliminated notorious armed robber, Sampson Iheukwumere Nweokocha popularly called "Grave" who was killed last December.
Mr Okon said the paraded suspects have made the World Bank housing estate in Umuahia their safe haven due to numerous escape routes which aided their evading arrest for many times.
He added that on January 25 2020 , the gangs operating on a tricycle snatched a sienna car at Health Centre Road, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, used the car to rob a couple, Mr/Mrs Darlington Chinyere Uzoma, killing them along Secretariat road Umuahia.
Following a tip off, after robbing one Chinedu Uwaeme, men of Central Police Station and SARS team on Operation Puff Adder intercepted the tricycle conveying two of the hoodlums and upon interrogation and confession led to the arrest of other members of the gang.
Okon disclosed that items recovered from them include: two Pump Action, two locally made short guns, three live Cartridges and one expanded cartridge and their confession revealed that they were behind incidents of recent crimes in the state and being members of the " Grave gang.
He assured that efforts were been made to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and the recovery of the stolen Sienna Car.
