The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee, the umbrella body of managing directors of banks and top officials of the CBN have told banks in the country to suspend any plan to lay-off staff at this moment.
The CBN, in a statement on Sunday and signed by the Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, said a special meeting of the Bankers’ Committee was convened on May 2, 2020, to further review the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Nigerian banking industry.
The committee, according to Okorafor, particularly deliberated on the issue of the operating costs of banks in view of the disruptions emanating from the global economic difficulties and made some decisions.
